Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has refused to be drawn on whether he will succeed Pep Guardiola as Man City manager.
The club legend has been widely tipped to return to the Etihad in a coaching capacity, but when asked about the possibility, Kompany said he is completely focused on his current job:
“In football, I can’t think that far ahead, my focus is on Bayern and what we can achieve now. I like to just live in the world I have in front of me now, that takes up all my time. I have zero thoughts about other teams, I only see FC Bayern.”
Despite Kompany’s comments, fans on X believe his refusal to speak on the subject may suggest that he is keen on taking over after Guardiola leaves:
Yeah this is a true Pep disciple, he's definitely coaching City if the near future

Vinny is the only natural successor to Pep. If he loses his first 20 games, we'll sing his name as loud as when he was Captain.

Kompany’s credentials as a manager are outstanding
After learning the trade in his first job at Anderlecht, he went on to have greater success at Burnley, where he managed the Clarets to promotion in his first year in charge.
While Kompany was not able to keep them in the Premier League, he had made enough of an impression to attract the attention of Bayern.
The Belgian was appointed in the summer of 2024 and he has already won the Bundesliga title and the German Super Cup.
When does Pep Guardiola’s contract run out at City?
The Catalan signed an extension in November last year, which will keep him at the Etihad until the summer of 2027.
While there is nothing suggesting that Guardiola will leave when his current deal comes to an end, there are no indications that he will stay beyond it either. If he does call it a day, Kompany is the logical candidate to replace him, considering his longstanding association with City.
