Hamann Names Manager (With 16 Wins Out Of 17 Games This Season) As “Most Likely” To Replace Guardiola At Man City

Former Man City and Bayern Munich midfielder Didi Hamann thinks Vincent Kompany is the “most likely” manager to succeed Pep Guardiola at Man City.

The former club captain has gone on to have a very successful managerial career, having won the Bundesliga title in his first season at Bayern Munich. When asked who is the favourite to replace Guardiola at the Etihad, Hamann replied:

“They probably have two or three contenders once Pep Guardiola leaves. I’d be very surprised if Vincent Kompany wasn’t one of them.”

“At the moment, it’s probably the most likely scenario that when Pep does leave, Kompany takes over, depending on when that is. Obviously, it’s always a matter of timing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does end up there.”

Man City supporters would love to see Kompany return

The Belgian is a legendary figure among fans, having helped guide the Cityzens to their first four Premier League titles as captain, as well as eight other major trophies.

Kompany would also surely be tempted by a return to the team where he had so much success as a player. He has recently signed a new contract at Bayern but he may be ready to jump ship once Guardiola does call time on his tenure in Manchester.

It would not be a sentimental choice to replace Guardiola

When you hire a former player as manager, it can sometimes be regarded as a decision ruled by the heart rather than the head, but Kompany’s managerial record is outstanding.

As well as winning the Bundesliga and German Super Cup with Bayern, he also secured the English Championship title during his spell at Burnley.

This season at Bayern, he has secured 16 wins from 17 games, with his only dropped points coming against Union Berlin in his last fixture.
