Juventus are expected to sell former Man City transfer target Andrea Cambiaso for much “less” than the €60m (£52m) they asked for at the start of this year, according to reports in Italy.
The defender has struggled to recapture the form which attracted the interest of the Cityzens, and Juve are also mindful of the fact that he will have just one year left on his contract at the end of this season.
With that in mind, Calciomercato claim that it is now “unthinkable” that teams would be willing to pay Cambiaso’s original asking price.
Many feel that his regression over the past ten months was due to his head being turned by City in the first place.
Why did Man City end their interest in Cambiaso?
Speaking back in the summer, the fullback’s agent Giovanni Bia said that the Manchester club had “abandoned” plans to sign the 25-year-old after they decided to prioritise other positions.
Pep Guardiola’s side spent the best part £180m on the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis, Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov and Porto’s Nico Gonzalez last January.
Bia said discussions were underway for Cambiaso to move to the Etihad for between €45m (£39.2m) and €50 million (£43.6m) but the player ultimately ended up staying in Italy.
A new right-back is still on the agenda
City headed into this season with Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes as their two options on the right-hand side of defence.
Based on the club’s pursuit of Cambiaso and subsequent interest in Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, it’s clear that it is a position that the club want to upgrade.
Director of Football Hugo Viana may consider reviving interest in Cambiaso in the future, but it is more than likely that alternatives will be pursued, considering the Italian is not playing anywhere close to the level he was last year.
