Man City manager Pep Guardiola says Bernardo Silva has still not told him about his future plans.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and asked whether Silva could leave the Etihad, Guardiola replied:
“He didn’t tell me, no. He’s my captain, we love each other so much, but he didn’t tell me.”
Silva has spoken out to say that he has made a final decision on his future, but he has yet to reveal publicly what his next step will be.
A move to Saudi Arabia is on the cards
Silva reportedly turned down a £500,000 a week contract from Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023. Instead, he signed a three-year extension with City that also included a substantial pay rise.
However, it looks like he could be the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League teams once again, with the likes of Al Ahli and Al Qadsiah said to be lining up offers.
If Silva does opt against a switch to the Middle East, a return to his native Portugal may also be considered, with his first club Benfica among his options.
Could Silva end up staying at Man City?
While nothing can be ruled out at this stage, the fact that discussions over a new contract have not taken place does suggest a parting of ways is very likely.
While Guardiola may not be aware of Silva’s final decision at the moment, that is expected to change in the New Year.
The Portuguese international will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in just over two months’ time. Based on all the noises from the player, his manager and other reports, the expectation is that he will end his spell in Manchester after nine years.
