Manchester City are among the Premier League’s “Big Four” keeping tabs on Boubacar Kamara’s contract situation at Aston Villa, according to reports in France.
L’Equipe (via Get French Football News) report that the Villans are willing to offer the holding midfielder a sizeable increase on his current salary to keep him with the Midlands club.
However, Kamara is also attracting interest from Villa’s rivals, with it being suggested that Cityzens, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are watching on with interest.
The 25-year-old still has just over two years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park.
City don’t need another holding midfielder
After splashing out £50m on Porto’s Nico Gonzalez during the January transfer window, it would be a surprise if Pep Guardiola’s side pursued another No.6 this summer.
Rodri may be out injured but there is now an expectation that the Ballon d’Or winner will be back available for selection at some point in May.
Finding a replacement for De Bruyne is the top priority
Adding a defensive midfielder to the squad won’t be top of Hugo Viana’s to-do list, with the new Director of Football expected to be in the market for players who can play in more advanced positions.
It has been confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will leave the Etihad when his contract expires, while there are doubts over the futures of Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic.
AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders has been tipped as a possible addition in the Italian press, while both Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are also said to be on City’s radar.
From the outside looking in, it does appear as if there could be a radical overhaul of the first-team squad as the club look to improve on what has been a very disappointing campaign.
