Man City are keeping close tabs on Athletico Paranaense winger Bruninho, according to reports in the Brazilian media.
The 17-year-old has just made his first-team breakthrough, and RTI Esporte (via Sport Witness) claims the teenager has attracted the attention of City Director of Football Hugo Viana.
Bruninho has a €50m (£43.5m) release clause in his contract, but talks over a new contract have not gone smoothly.
It has been suggested that Athletico Paranaense would consider offers for around half of his current buyout fee – €25m or £22m.
What do fans need to know about Bruninho?
The forward is left-footed and prefers to play off the right flank so he can cut in and shoot on his stronger side. He can also be deployed as a No. 10 if needed.
Bruninho made his senior debut for Athletico Paranaense against Andraus in the State Championship at the beginning of this year. He found the back of the net on his first appearance, scoring the second during a 2-1 win.
He would subsequently grab three more goals in the tournament against Operario-PR, Azuriz and Foz do Iguacu.
In Brazil’s Serie A, Bruninho was given his first outing as a substitute during a 2-0 victory against Santos back in mid-February. He has gone on to make two further appearances off the bench, against Corinthians a week later, and versus Cruzeiro earlier this month.
He could be a target for another City Football Group team
Bruninho is clearly not ready to play Premier League football, but City do own a team in Brazil, Bahia.
If the youngster cannot resolve his contract issues with Athletico Parananense, there is a chance that he could remain in South America but within the City Football Group structure.
