Manchester City supporters are hoping that their club will sign a new midfielder in the next transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled due to a lack of legs and energy in the middle of the park and many feel a fresh addition in that area is required.
Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a switch to the Etihad in the past and, while the club did pass up the opportunity to buy him for £100m last summer, fans on X are hoping they will go back in for the Brazilian in January:

Get him at all costs

He is versatile…plays AM, CM, and DM
He is needed but the question is…will we be paying a high price for him?I’d be happy if he signs

There is nothing to discuss, if we can sign him we should no matter the fee
We need a player like him— عبدالرحمن (@AFK19_) December 9, 2024
He wants the move but i don’t think Newcastle will accept anything less than £100m

Nothing to discuss. Get it done. He’s perfect for us.

Newcastle may have to sell key players due to PSR
One of the reasons a move for Guimaraes could be revived is due to his club’s financial situation. Speaking last week, Magpies boss Eddie Howe said:
“I think trading in and out is going to be essential. Hopefully, it’s not going to be players that we are forced to sell like we were in that situation (in the summer) with a couple of days of deadlines approaching.”
“Hopefully, it’s a more stable setting but you can’t guarantee anything. Nothing is absolutely fixed and there will be lots of twists and turns.”
Could City sign Guimaraes on the cheap?
Following those comments from Howe, it has been suggested that Guimaraes could be let go for as little as €80m (£66m).
Whether there is any truth in that, we shall have to wait and see. If there is, it’s unlikely that City will be the 27-year-old’s only suitors, with Arsenal having also registered their interest in the past.
