Manchester City retain a strong interest in Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to The Athletic.
Despite the Brazilian’s £100m release clause having expired, the Premier League champions would still seriously consider making an offer for the player.
The Cityzens believe that Guimaraes could take some of the burden off Rodri but, fans on X are very sceptical that a deal could be done, especially now Newcastle can demand any price they like:

Guimaraes is open to leaving Newcastle
Speaking about his future back in March when both City and Arsenal were linked with a move to sign him, the 26-year-old said that he would consider a transfer away from St James’ Park:
“Everything’s been going well at Newcastle since I arrived, I play among the best. I plan to play here for a long time, but I’m also aiming to move in the future. I’m happy to be here in the league.”
City have raised plenty of money this summer
The fact that Pep Guardiola’s side have sold Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez, Tommy Doyle and (soon) Liam Delap over the course of this transfer window means they do have plenty of flexibility to spend.
They have also received additional funds through sell-on clauses for the likes of Arijanet Muric, which will add to their coffers. Whether that will be enough to finance a substantial bid for Guimaraes, though, it remains to be seen.
