Man City Have Made Decision On Signing Chelsea Star Amid Reports Of Record Breaking £170M Offer

Man City will make no attempt to re-sign Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer, according to reports.

There have been speculative claims from Spain that Pep Guardiola’s side could lodge a British record bid worth up to £170m for the 23-year-old.

However, TEAMtalk say the Cityzens have no intention of making any offer for Palmer as they are aware that it would be “impossible” to get him back from Chelsea.

The England international was offloaded in the summer of 2023 for £42.5m and he has gone on to thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Cherki’s signing suggests recruiting Palmer was never considered

After losing out on Florian Wirtz, the decision was made by Guardiola and Director of Football Hugo Viana to pursue Rayan Cherki instead.

The Frenchman sealed a £34m move to the Etihad Stadium from Lyon back in June. He plays in most of the same positions as Palmer, with his preferred role being no.10.

Nobody would suggest that Cherki is currently playing at the same level as the Chelsea playmaker but he does have plenty of untapped potential, which Guardiola is hoping to unlock. He is very much a mercurial talent and there has no doubt the club has taken a risk on him.

Man City may still make a sizeable bid for another player

It is believed that the 8-time Premier League champions still hold an interest in Newcastle fullback Tino Livramento.

Guardiola is believed to be keen on recruiting a replacement for Kyle Walker, who was sold to Burnley earlier this summer, and Livramento is seen as the ideal candidate.

However, if the Magpies do sanction Alexander Isak’s sale to Liverpool, it is extremely unlikely that they would allow another high-profile player to leave before the transfer window closes.

In other news, an agent has revealed Man City abandoned a move to sign another potential Walker replacement in January
