Manchester City are interested in signing Crystal Palace wingback Daniel Munoz at the end of the season, according to reports in Colombia.
Radio station Antenna2 claims that the Premier League champions are considering the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Kyle Walker.
While the England international is only on loan at AC Milan until June, he is expected to leave the Etihad on a permanent basis when his time in Italy comes to an end.
Munoz has impressed since joining Palace from Belgian side Genk in January last year, but Antenna2 report that the Colombian is “ready” to make the next step in his career this summer.
City are not the only team interested
It is believed that Chelsea and Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on Munoz’s performances in view to making an approach when the campaign is over.
The Blues, in particular, have had issues on the right-hand side of defence, with captain Reece James having struggled to stay fit in recent years. Barca, meanwhile, don’t have much backup for first-choice Jules Kounde, with head coach Hansi Flick having to rely on 18-year-old Hector Fort.
Munoz’s age would be a concern
What may count against the right-back is that he will turn 29 in May. When you look at City’s recent purchases, they have attempted to sign players with the future in mind.
The five arrivals in the January transfer window are all 25 or under. Abdukodir Khusanov (20), Vitor Reis (18), Omar Marmoush (25), Juma Bah (18) and Nico Gonzalez (23) have the potential to play for the club for many years.
For that reason, you would suspect that a bid for Munoz is unlikely. A more realistic candidate would be Jeremie Frimpong. The Bayer Leverkusen star has been linked with a switch back to Manchester over the past 12 months and he has only just turned 24.
