City Have Been ‘Watching’ Swedish Wonderkid This Season But They Are Not The Only Premier League Club Involved

Manchester City are among the Premier League teams keeping close tabs on FC Nordsjaelland’s Daniel Svensson, according to TBR Football.

The website claims that the Premier League champions have been “watching” the Swedish Under 21 international this season.

Svensson has been turning heads with his performances in Denmark. During the summer, Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa all considered making bids for him.

Since then, TBR claim that the Cityzens, Arsenal and Tottenham have also sent scouts to watch him in action, with Brentford having also taken a keen interest.

Why is Svensson attracting so much attention?

The 22-year-old is a left-footed central midfielder but he also has experience as an inverted fullback – a role that has become more and more prevalent in the modern game.

City manager Pep Guardiola and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta use them pretty regularly in their systems so it is not a surprise that scouts have taken a look at Svensson.

The Swede scored 4 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances last campaign but he was mostly used as a midfielder. Most of his game time for Nordsjaelland this season has been at left-back.

City have been keeping an eye out for a young left-back

The Cityzens have been on the lookout for someone to replace Sergio Gomez since the Spaniard left for Real Sociedad back in July. Svensson’s age and skillset means he would fit the profile.

After spending the last four and a half years at Nordsjaelland, the fullback/midfielder is likely to be looking to make the next step in his career and he would jump at the chance of making the switch to the Etihad.

Of course, Svensson would not be brought in as a first-team starter but he could add depth to Guardiola’s squad.
