Denzel Dumfries Makes His Feelings Clear About Premier League Move Amid Man City Transfer Rumours

Reported Man City target Denzel Dumfries has expressed an interest in moving to a Premier League club.

In a press conference prior to the Netherlands’ 4-0 win over Malta at the weekend, the Inter Milan star was asked about the chances of him making the switch to England in the future, and he replied:

“That’s still a great competition. I play in Serie A myself, but it’s nice to see so many guys playing there. I’m in my place at Inter now, but the Premier League is a nice league for me too. There I’d come well into my own. Should the opportunity ever come along, I want to think about that.”

Dumfries has been linked on and off with a move to the Etihad Stadium over the years but no formal bid has ever been made for the wingback.

Man City are in the market for a new right-back

The Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, who has close contacts at the club, raised the prospect of the Cityzens going into the market in January for a player who can reinforce the right-hand side of defence.

At times, manager Pep Guardiola has been playing centre-half Abdukodir Khusanov out of position, rather than choosing the likes of Rico Lewis or Matheus Nunes, so it is definitely an area that needs strengthening.

Dumfries’ age would count against him

While there is no doubting the Dutchman’s quality, the fact that he will turn 30 later this season means he is not a long-term solution for the right-back spot.

Combined with the fact that Dumfries is best used in a five at the back system, you would think that City’s rivals, Manchester United, would be a better fit for him if Ruben Amorim remains in charge of the Red Devils.

Someone like Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is more likely to be targeted by the Cityzens in January or next summer.
