REPORT: Man City And Chelsea Are Among The Teams ‘Most Interested’ In Bringing 18 Cap Brazilian Back To England

Manchester City are keeping tabs on one of their former players Douglas Luiz, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Brazilian, who has 18 caps for his country, only moved to Juventus from Aston Villa at the start of the season for €51.5m but he has struggled during his time in Serie A.

Luiz has failed to nail down a first-team place, having started just three league games. Muscular injuries and poor form have both limited his minutes on the pitch.

Calciomercato.com claim that there is a chance that the 26-year-old will return to the Premier League this summer, with City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest named as the teams “most interested” in signing the midfielder.

Man City are not the favourites to snap up the player

While Pep Guardiola’s side are said to be keen on the Brazilian international, Calciomercato say that Newcastle and Forest are the clubs who are currently in “pole position” to buy him.

Juventus’s interest in Sandro Tonali means there is a potential for a swap deal with the Magpies involving Luiz.

Forest, meanwhile, have already given guarantees to the player’s entourage about regular game time, which he is keen to get after sitting on the bench at Juve all season.

Luiz is one of many midfielders linked with a move to the Etihad

With the club having decided to release Kevin De Bruyne and uncertainty over the futures of Ilkay Gundogan, Kalvin Phillips and Bernardo Silva, the midfield is an area of the pitch that City are likely to strengthen this summer.

AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, Atalanta’s Ederson, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are just some of the names under consideration. Based on what has been said, Luiz does not appear to feature high on the club’s list of targets.
