Bayer Leverkusen midfielder and Manchester City target Exequiel Palacios says he has yet to decide on whether he will leave the Bundesliga champions this summer.
The Argentinian international claims he is content to remain in Germany after such a successful season but he did leave the door open to a potential transfer:
“Bayer Leverkusen met all my expectations. Here I was always able to develop more as a player. I enjoy being in Germany, I am very comfortable, happy. I don’t think about the future, then we’ll see where I’m going next.”
Palacios is a holding midfielder by trade and he has excelled playing alongside Granit Xhaka this campaign, with Xabi Alonso’s side still unbeaten in all competitions.
City are one of a number of teams who are watching Palacios
The 25-year-old was speaking in an interview with Argentinian newspaper La Nacion, which credited Pep Guardiola‘s side with an interest in the player, along with Aston Villa and Newcastle.
It appears that the three teams have joined Arsenal in pursuing Palacios, with the Gunners having reportedly sent scouts to watch him play against RB Leipzig a few months ago.
Do City need a player like Palacios?
Rodri has complained about playing too many games this season, and that will likely prompt City’s recruitment team to sign someone who can take some of the workload off the Spaniard.
Palacios does appear to be a good fit, having scored 5 times and provided 5 assists in 30 appearances. That suggests that he can get involved in the final third if need be as well as break up play.
When you also consider that Kalvin Phillips is expected to be sold on a permanent basis when his loan spell at West Ham comes to an end, there will definitely be room in the first-team squad for another midfielder.
