Man City are set to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano
The Italian international is expected to undergo his medical ahead of joining up with his new teammates after the international break.
Romano has confirmed on his X account that Donnarumma’s move will be finalised prior to the transfer window closing on Monday evening:
“EXCLUSIVE: Gigio Donnarumma to Manchester City, HERE WE GO! Deal done for the Italian GK to join Man City project from Paris Saint-Germain. Medical this afternoon.”
“Long-term deal agreed weeks ago and all done between the two clubs after Ederson signed for Fenerbahce”
How much will Man City pay for Donnarumma?
The BBC claim that Pep Guardiola’s side will hand over €35m (£30.3m) to secure the 26-year-old’s signature, which is a lot lower than the €50m (£43m) that PSG had originally demanded.
Donnarumma had less than a year left on his contract at the Parc des Princes, and he had already been replaced by Lucas Chevalier, so his club did not have much choice in compromising on their asking price.
He will become City’s 7th summer signing after Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Marcus Bettinelli, James Trafford and Sverre Nypan.
What will happen to Ederson?
As Romano mentions, the 32-year-old is set to join Turkish side Fenerbahce. Like Donnarumma, he also had less than 12 months remaining on his current deal.
The Cityzens opted to cash in for between €13m (£11.3m) and €14m (£12m). Some will see that as a bargain for a goalkeeper who has shown over eight years at the Etihad that he is among the best there is.
Of course, Donnarumma is by no means a poor replacement, but some have raised concerns about his kicking. Pundits Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Ally McCoist have all suggested that manager Pep Guardiola will have to adapt his style of play now he doesn’t have Ederson in goal.
