Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract situation, according to reports in Italy.
The Paris Saint-Germain number one, who has put in some standout displays in the Champions League against Liverpool and Arsenal this season, is closing in on the final year of his contract.
Donnarumma is currently earning in excess of €10m a year but PSG have offered a new deal that would see his basic wage cut.
That has not gone down well with the Italian and his representatives who believe his performances this campaign deserve to be rewarded. Sport Italia claim that has led several teams, including the Cityzens, to register their interest in the goalkeeper.
The TV network say that Pep Guardiola is a “huge admirer” of Donnarumma and he would be keen on bringing him to the Etihad this summer.
2 Serie A clubs have already tabled contract offers to Donnarumma
It is believed that Champions League finalists Inter Milan have proposed a contract worth close to what he is currently earning at PSG. However, the Nerazzurri would only sanction his transfer if he leaves on a free when his contract expires next year.
Juventus are also involved but Sport Italia report that the Serie A side can only offer around €7m a year.
How serious is City’s interest in the keeper?
Any approach for Donnarumma is likely to depend on the future of Ederson. The Brazilian international was close to moving to Saudi Arabia last year.
He had reportedly agreed personal terms but clubs could not agree a transfer fee with the Cityzens. It is expected that interest from the Middle East will surface again over the coming weeks.
If Ederson is sold, it is expected that a more concerted effort will be made to snap up Donnarumma.
