Journalist Reveals Man City Could Provide “Serious Competition” To Bundesliga Giants For £26M Rated Defender

Man City pose the biggest threat to Bayern Munich in the battle to sign Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern Insider, Falk said that the Bundesliga champions are planning to secure a quick agreement for the Dutchman to avoid getting into a bidding war with Pep Guardiola’s side:

“Bayern Munich face serious competition from Manchester City for Givairo Read. Bayern are wary of this. I heard they’re now trying to make a quick deal and start talks with Feyenoord right now. That’s because they’ve already been in touch with the player – he knows FC Bayern want him.

“But now they have to hurry because if Premier League clubs make wild offers that push up the transfer fee beyond the point Bayern are currently thinking about (about €20m-30m [£17.2m-26m]) for Read, it could complicate matters. They want to make a quick deal so they don’t have to worry about Man City getting involved. FC Bayern will have to withdraw from the poker if it gets too expensive.”

Read has been scouted by Man City

Another prominent reporter, Fabrizio Romano, revealed back in November that the 19-year-old is on the Manchester club’s radar.

However, up until now, Director of Football Hugo Viana has not pushed ahead with a formal offer.

Other right-backs are under consideration

While Read is seemingly on the club’s shortlist to strengthen the right-hand side of defence, several other names have been linked with a switch to the Etihad as well.

Newcastle’s Tino Livramento has been a target since last summer, although City’s interest has been played down more recently. Roma’s Wesley, Brentford’s Michael Kayode and Sporting Lisbon’s Ivan Fresneda are possible alternatives.
