City Set To Bid £18M For Brazilian Wonderkid As They Look To Head Off Interest From Arsenal And Liverpool

Manchester City are planning to make an £18m bid for Gremio winger Gustavo Nunes as soon as the summer transfer window opens, according to GZH Portal (via The Sun).

The Brazilian website claim that the Cityzens are keen to beat other Premier League clubs to the signature of the 18-year-old.

It is believed that Arsenal, Liverpool and Wolves are interested in Nunes, while Championship side Norwich City have also made enquiries.

However, Gremio are not expected to give away the teenager on the cheap and an £18m offer may not even be enough for City to secure the player’s services.

Gremio are in a good position to keep the player

Nunes only recently signed a new contract with Gremio, which means he has committed his future to the Brazilian Serie A team until December 2028.

It’s likely that they included a release clause of some kind in the agreement but it is probably a lot higher than the amount City are reportedly willing to pay. It appears that Pep Guardiola’s side have a lot of work to do if they want to sign the youngster.

What do City fans need to know about Nunes?

The winger made his senior debut in the Campeonato Gaucho state championship back in mid-February, coming on as a substitute in Gremio’s 1-1 draw against Sao Luiz.

Just a week later, Nunes scored his first goal, hitting the back of the net during a 6-2 win over Santa Cruz-RS. He has been a regular starter ever since, playing as Gremio won the state championship final versus Juventude over two legs earlier this month.

Fans have nicknamed him Gustavinho and he generally likes to play off the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot.
