Manchester City will sell Jack Grealish if they receive a fee in the region of £40m this summer, according to reports.
The winger has found game time hard to come by over the past two seasons and The Sun claim his sale will be sanctioned if a club matches their asking price.
Grealish is unlikely to be selected in City’s squad for the Club World Cup, which indicates that he is no longer part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
The 29-year-old only started 7 Premier League games for the Cityzens last campaign, having been an unused substitute for 12 of them.
The manager all but confirmed Grealish’s departure last month
Speaking about the England international in the last few weeks, Guardiola hinted that the player’s future lies away from the Etihad Stadium:
“Of course, Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it – with us or another place.”
“It’s a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays, it will be fine, and he fought like he fought from day one to make a contribution.”
Will any club match City’s valuation?
Even though the Manchester club will be taking a £60m hit on the £100m they paid Aston Villa for Grealish nearly four years ago, there is no guarantee that interested teams will be willing to pay the asking price.
The Sun report that his former team Villa, along with West Ham, Everton, Newcastle and Serie A champions Napoli are all circling the player but some of these sides will struggle to match his £300,000 a week wages, and they may enquire about a loan move instead.
There are suggestions that City would sanction such a deal but the club need to raise funds through player sales if they are to continue with their major squad rebuild. Grealish’s future is, therefore, very uncertain.
