Tottenham have submitted an enquiry for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, according to reports.

James Maddison sustained what looked like a serious injury in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle at the weekend and Sport Mole claim that Spurs have “made immediate contact” with Pep Guardiola’s side about Grealish.

City’s record signing was not included in the squad for the Club World Cup and it has been known for several months that he would be leaving this summer.

However, so far, no team has been willing to match Grealish’s asking price, which is said to be between £40m and £45m.

Thomas Frank’s side triggered the £60m release clause in Morgan Gibbs-White’s contract last month, but the attacking midfielder performed a U-turn and signed a new deal with Nottingham Forest instead.

Having not shelled out on the 25-year-old, it means Spurs should be able to match Grealish’s valuation without any issues. There are other hurdles to overcome, though.

The North London club’s wage structure means that there is no prospect of them matching the England international’s current salary, which is reportedly £300,000 a week. A lot could depend on whether Grealish is prepared to take a substantial pay cut.

In addition to Grealish, Director of Football Hugo Viana is hoping to find suitors for Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega. The latter’s departure seems inevitable following the arrival of James Trafford from Burnley.

James McAtee‘s sale will also be sanctioned. The club have already rejected a £25m bid from Forest, but it is believed the midfielder will be let go if an offer in the region of £40m is received.
