City Target 4 Midfielders Who Could Cost A Combined £400M Ahead Of Summer Transfer Window

Manchester City hold interest in four different midfielders heading into the next transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

Sources have told the website that the club are considering bids for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Benfica’s Joao Neves.

Three of those have release clauses in their contracts. Paqueta can be bought for £85m but City will hold back on any bid until an FA investigation into betting infringements has come to a conclusion.

Guimaraes, meanwhile, has a £100m buyout fee, although there have been claims that Newcastle may accept offers of £80m or above for the 26-year-old. Neves’s clause is reportedly €120m (£103.5m).

However, City would have to negotiate with Bayern if they want to buy Musiala. Reports suggest that the Premier League champions may consider tabling a proposal as high as £120m for the ex-Chelsea academy graduate.

It is very unlikely that Pep Guardiola’s side will make approaches for all four players but their combined worth is in excess of £400m.

Why are City keeping tabs on so many midfielders?

The Manchester club are expected to sell Kalvin Phillips when his loan deal at West Ham expires. There is also uncertainty over the futures of both Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.

De Bruyne is closing in on the final year of his contract at the Etihad and, if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal, he could move to Saudi Arabia. Silva, meanwhile, has his own release clause worth £50m.

Rival Premier League clubs are interested in City’s transfer targets

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for Musiala, while Arsenal are expected to challenge City for the signature of Guimaraes.

If the Cityzens decide to pursue Neves instead, it is believed that Manchester United could challenge them for the Portuguese international’s services.
