Manchester City have turned down sizeable offers for James McAtee this summer, according to The Athletic.
The website has confirmed that “bids of up to £30m” have been received for the 21-year-old but the Premier League champions are determined to keep him at the Etihad Stadium.
Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed last month that McAtee and Nico O’Reilly would be part of the first team set-up this season.
The midfielder spent the last two years out on loan at Sheffield United and he returned to Manchester with something to prove.
McAtee impressed Guardiola during City’s pre-season tour of the United States and he was given a start in the Community Shield against Manchester United earlier this month. He has, though, only played a few minutes in the two subsequent league fixtures against Chelsea and Ipswich Town.
City want to tie down the player to a new contract
The Athletic also claims that the Cityzens will offer McAtee a contract extension. He only signed on the dotted line a couple of years ago and he has three seasons remaining on his current deal.
However, due to the interest being shown in the player, they have decided that they want him to commit his future to the club once again.
Which teams have made approaches for McAtee?
It was reported back in July that Chelsea were keen on the midfielder, with their head coach Enzo Maresca having worked with him during his time as City’s development squad coach.
However, it is believed that eight other teams have registered their interest more recently, with the likes of Stuttgart, Feyenoord, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Lille, Lens and Celtic all having made approaches. From the looks of things, though, McAtee will be staying at the Etihad for the foreseeable future.
