Man City are favourites to sign winger Jeremy Monga if he chooses to leave Leicester City, according to reports.
The 16-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium prior to signing on to a scholarship with the Foxes earlier this year.
Monga’s main motivation for staying at the King Power was the promise of first-team football, and his current club have satisfied his demands by playing him in 12 matches so far this campaign.
However, the teenager has still not put to pen to paper on a professional contract. He is only eligible for one when he turns 17 next July, so it leaves Leicester in a vulnerable position.
TBRFootball report that it gives City an opening to revive their move for the Monga, and they are said to be “leading the race” for his signature at the moment.
Man City may get a chance to sign the forward in January
Leicester will only receive minimal compensation if Monga doesn’t put pen to paper on a professional deal, so the Foxes’ aim will be to keep him until the summer and hope he signs on the dotted line.
If the player signals to the Championship side that he has no intention of staying, it could open up the possibility of a transfer happening early in the New Year.
There will be competition for Monga
TBRFootball claim that Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle are also keeping close tabs on the youngster’s situation.
Monga has been compared to the likes of Arsenal’s Max Dowman and Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha in terms of his potential, so if he does decide to leave Leicester and make the switch to City, it would be seen as a tremendous coup by the Manchester club.
