Carragher Says There Is One Big Reason Why Arsenal Will Opt Against Making Shock Move For Man City Playmaker

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Arsenal will make an attempt to sign Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer this summer.

The Belgian has expressed his disappointment at not being handed a new contract by the Cityzens but Carragher says the Gunners are unlikely to give the player the chance to remain in England, citing his recent injury record as a big issue:

“I think his wage demands have to come into it and the fact that Man City are letting him go is because the wages he is on and they can’t have someone on those kind of wages who is not going to play every week.”

“Over the last couple of years as you look at his injury record, as he is getting older, that is probably going to continue.”

“Arsenal, would have to look at his injury record over the last two years and that would probably put them off. But they definitely need someone of that ilk.”

What has De Bruyne said about his future?

Speaking after scoring the winner against Wolves at the weekend, the 33-year-old remarked that he feels he can still produce the goods at the highest level:

“I showed I can still play here (in the Premier League) otherwise I don’t do what I have done in these last four or five weeks.”

Where could he go after leaving Man City?

The MLS does appear to be the most likely destination for De Bruyne at this moment in time. The midfielder has expressed an interest in moving to the Saudi Pro League in the past but an offer from across the pond is said to be tempting.

Chicago Fire are reportedley among the frontrunners for his signature with a decision expected to be made at some point next month.
