Agent Confirms “Concrete Offer” With City Set To See Off Chelsea And Other Rivals In Race For Uruguayan Wonderkid

City Football Group club Girona look poised to sign Luciano Rodriguez from Uruguay’s Liverpool FC.

It was reported in February that the likes of Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Wolves were pursuing the 20-year-old, along with the Cityzens, but it appears that the player could be plying his trade for the Manchester side’s sister club next season. Speaking about Rodriguez’s situation, his agent Mauricio Machado said that Girona are favourites to land the winger:

“Today, we have a concrete offer directly from Girona. Tomorrow we have a meeting with Palmeiras for Luciano. (But) Girona offers the amount that Liverpool is asking for. The contract with Girona would be a four or five-year contract.”

Rodriguez is a highly-rated young player. He was given his first senior cap by Uruguay in March, and he is known for his blistering pace, which has led to comparisons being made to Kylian Mbappe.

Rodriguez could follow the same path as Savinho

With Girona effectively being a feeder club for City, there is a strong chance that the young Uruguayan forward will end up at the Etihad in the not-too-distant future as long as he impresses during his time in Spain.

City have already snapped up one player from Girona in recent weeks. Savinho has been on loan with the La Liga club from another City Football Group team, Troyes, this season.

The 20-year-old has been in extremely good form, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists in 37 appearances, and he will be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

City have been investing a lot of money in young talent

In addition to Savinho, the Premier League champions have also secured the signature of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

A deal was struck for the 18-year-old during the January transfer window but he will remain on loan in Argentina until the end of the year.
