Man City may enter a “tug of war” with Liverpool for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi next summer, according to reports.
The 25-year-old saw a Deadline Day move to Anfield collapse, and he is now expected to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
Guehi’s availability on a free transfer has attracted plenty of interest from foreign clubs, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus.
However, The Mirror claim that City could pose the greatest threat to Liverpool if the England international opts to stay in the UK.
Chelsea have also been mentioned as another Premier League suitor but they are deemed a “highly unlikely” destination as Guehi is not keen on returning to his former club.
Guehi has been praised for his professionalism
The defender was called up for England duty immediately after his ill-fated move to Liverpool, but he started both games during the international break against Andorra and Serbia, getting on the scoresheet and providing an assist in the latter game.
Speaking after the 5-0 victory over Serbia, Three Lions head coach Thomas Tuchel paid tribute to Guehi:
“It’s the example of how the boys were in this camp, exactly like this. They put their personal interests aside. He was the best team-mate possible and had a fantastic performance. Very strong for Crystal Palace and showed it today on the pitch.”
Man City have plenty of centre-backs
Manager Pep Guardiola currently has five options in the middle of defence, including Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov.
You would think that, if the Cityzens do actively pursue a move for Guehi, at least one of these players would need to be sold to make room in the first-team squad.
