Manchester City are keen on signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and they are “prepared to sell” Ruben Dias in order to make it happen, according to TEAMtalk.
The website claims that the Premier League champions are keen to refresh their options in the middle of the defence.
They are reportedly keeping close tabs on Guehi but, with Palace set to demand as much as £80m for his signature, they may have to “reluctantly” offload Dias.
The Portuguese international does have interest from a rival Premier League club, with Chelsea mentioned as potential suitors back in October.
Dias has been in good form
Supporters would be very surprised if the Cityzens decide to let the centre-back leave the Etihad. Despite the club’s poor results, he has been one of Pep Guardiola’s standout performers.
At 27 years of age, Dias is about to hit his prime too. With that being the case, fans would prefer that the club get rid of other players. Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Matheus Nunes have particularly struggled and many would argue that they should be shown the door ahead of Dias.
Why are City interested in Guehi?
TEAMTalk do emphasise that the England international is not the only centre-half being looked at by the club but he seems to be top of their list of options at the moment.
Guehi is a few years younger than Dias and he is homegrown, but the cost of signing him could prove prohibitive. £80m is a lot of money for a player who will have just a year left on his contract at the end of the season.
Other Premier League teams, including Liverpool and Newcastle, also hold an interest in the defender but Palace’s valuation does seem to be excessive, especially for someone who may not be an upgrade on Dias.
