Man City Told To Match Record Transfer Fee As Club Demand £100M For De Bruyne Replacement

Nottingham Forest will ask for £100m if Manchester City make an approach for Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, according to reports.

It was confirmed by trusted journalist David Ornstein earlier this week that the 25-year-old is “among the names” being considered by the Manchester club as they seek a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.

However, talkSPORT claim that the Cityzens will have to match the club record fee they paid for Jack Grealish in 2021 if they want to sign Gibbs-White.

It seems an excessive amount for a midfielder whose performances have been far from elite level.

Gibbs-White has scored 5 goals and provided 9 assists in 30 appearances for Forest so far this season.

City are not the only Premier League club interested in the player

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with Gibbs-White in recent months and Forest’s excessive valuation is probably designed to ward off potential suitors.

It would be a surprise if any team decided to go near that price, although there is always a possibility that a bidding war could ensue if more than one club decides to table a bid.

Moises Caicedo’s fee skyrocketed to £115m a couple of years ago when both Chelsea and Liverpool made offers for the midfielder.

An alternative for Gibbs-White is likely to be sought

With Forest clearly trying all they can to keep their vice-captain, it may force Pep Guardiola’s side into exploring alternatives. One such option would be Florian Wirtz.

The German international may end up costing just as much or even more than Gibbs-White but his form this campaign would justify the cost involved.

Wirtz has scored 15 times and contributed 13 assists for Bayer Leverkusen and at 21 years of age, he is also considerably younger than Gibbs-White.
