Man City are contemplating a move for Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, according to reports.

The 35-year-old has had an excellent World Cup, having helped his country to the quarter-finals, alongside his international teammate Erling Haaland.

Despite Nyland’s form, though, he is without a club, having left La Liga side Sevilla at the end of last month when his contract expired.

The Sun claim that Enzo Maresca’s side, Leeds and three other “British clubs” are considering offers for the keeper.

Why do Man City want him?

There are major doubts over the future of current no.2 James Trafford. Despite only re-joining the Cityzens from Burnley last summer, he is not happy being Gianluigi Donnarumma’s understudy.

For that reason, the England international will likely be offloaded over the coming weeks, with reports suggesting that his asking price has been set at £40m.

Newcastle and Tottenham are believed to be among Trafford’s suitors, but any transfer is only expected to be finalised once he returns from the World Cup.

If the 23-year-old is sold, a new backup for Donnarumma will be needed, and Nyland is seemingly among the options under consideration.

What do fans need to know about Nyland?

The veteran already has plenty of experience of English football, having originally joined Aston Villa all the way back in 2018, but he failed to impress as the club’s no.1, and he had brief spells at Norwich City, Bournemouth and Reading following his departure from Villa Park in 2020.

Nyland joined RB Leipzig for the 2022/23 season as backup before he made the switch to Sevilla, where he made 66 appearances across three campaigns.

Despite rarely being a regular starter at club level, he has received 75 caps for Norway, including 4 at this summer’s World Cup. He will face Trafford’s England later this week.
