Man City Director of Football Hugo Viana has been pictured meeting the agent of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele.

Sport have shared a photo of Viana with Dembele’s representative Moussa Sissoko, which they claim shows “first contact” ahead of a potential transfer this summer.

Dembele is currently locked in talks over signing a new contract with PSG, but it is believed negotiations have stalled.

If a renewal is not signed soon, the European champions would have to make a decision on whether to sell this summer or risk the player running down his current deal.

Dembele has been labelled the “most complete” player in the world

Speaking last year before the France international won the Ballon d’Or, former Man City fullback Gael Clichy said he deserved the award based on his performances for PSG:

“Ousmane is the most complete, he can score and make others score, cause chaos around him, he contributes defensively with his pressing.”

Man City should be cautious

When clubs are linked with players in the midst of negotiating contract extensions, you do wonder whether their agents are using the interest for their own ends.

The pressure for PSG to give in to Dembele’s demands will be greater now that they know City are involved.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has already played down the significance of the meeting, stating that Viana and Sissoko did not discuss Dembele, so there are certainly plenty of doubts about whether Pep Guardiola‘s side are serious about signing the 28-year-old.

The club are expected to prioritise a midfielder and a right-back this summer, so any move for Dembele would be a surprise, but we shall see how this transfer story develops.
