Manchester City are seriously weighing up a summer bid for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, according to reports.
TBRFootball claim that the Cityzens have begun conducting “background checks” ahead of lodging a formal offer for the Algerian international.
Wolves are believed to be “willing to sell” Ait-Nouri as long as a club meets their £40m asking price, which is a fee that is unlikely to put off the Cityzens.
Manager Pep Guardiola has publicly stated that he wants to strengthen the left-hand side of defence.
Attacking midfielder Nico O’Reilly has been asked to play there in recent weeks. The 20-year-old has performed well, but Guardiola is keen to find a more permanent solution.
Ait-Nouri does have other suitors in the Premier League
Reports in March suggested that Tottenham had tabled a bid in the region of £30m for the 23-year-old, while speculative sources have also credited Arsenal with an interest in the player.
However, as things stand, it does appear as if City are the closest to making an approach for Ait-Nouri, as they look to continue the revamp of their squad which began back in January when the likes of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalet, Abdukodor Khusanov and Vitor Reis were recruited.
Man City are looking at other left-backs
In addition to Ait-Nouri, Pep Guardiola’s side are also thought to be keeping close tabs on Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie.
Personal terms were said to have been agreed with Cambiaso at the beginning of this year but Juve’s asking price ended up being a stumbling block. There is a good chance that the deal could be revived in the summer but it seems Ai-Nouri is very much in the club’s thinking as well.
