Man City are waiting on Rodri to decide whether he will sign a new contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Over the past week, the former Ballon d’Or Winner has openly stated that he would like to play for Real Madrid, but Romano says the player could remain at the Etihad if he puts pen to paper on a new deal:

“From what I understand, [he]already has a new contract proposal into his hands from Manchester City. So Man City are offering a new contract to Rodri, and they are prepared to give him an important salary.

“At the moment it’s on Rodri to decide financially, personally with his family, about the project and all the rest what he wants to do – stay at Man City, or stay at Man City and sign a new contract which is already on the table, so it’s on Rodri to decide or leave Man City now or in summer 2027.”

Guardiola won’t stand in Rodri’s way if he wants to leave

Speaking before the win over Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend, manager Pep Guardiola said that “if a player is not happy, he has to leave.”

It basically puts the ball in Rodri‘s court. He has a contract offer, so he can sign it if he wishes, but the club won’t fight tooth and nail to keep him if he wants to go elsewhere this summer.

Man City are putting contingency plans in place

Director of Football Hugo Viana is already pushing hard to sign Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, but there have also been conversations about pursuing Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.

If Bernardo Silva and Rodri decide to move on to pasture’s new, the Cityzens would need to replace both players, and it appears that targets are being lined up.
