Man City and Real Madrid are currently at a stalemate in talks over Rodri’s move to the Bernabeu, according to journalist Luca Cerchione.

Enzo Maresca’s side are standing firm on their €75m (£64m) asking price, but Cerchione says Real have yet to increase their opening offer for the Spanish international:

“With Bouaddi’s move to Manchester City, the chances of seeing Rodri in a Real Madrid shirt increase, although, as of today, the Blancos’ offer remains stuck at 50 million euros, against the 75 demanded by the Citizens. Negotiations are underway.”

Rodri has less than a year left on his contract, so it remains to be seen if Real are willing to up their bid by €25m (£21.4m).

Real may be playing the waiting game with Rodri

The midfielder’s contract situation does mean City will need to make a decision in the not-too-distant future.

With Rodri not expected to pen a new deal, they will have to consider whether they are prepared to let him leave on a free transfer next year.

Real are likely banking on the fact that the Cityzens will ultimately opt to sell, which could force the Manchester club into climbing down on their current demands.

While many journalists have suggested that an agreement to sign Rodri’s potential replacement is close, Lille president Olivier Letang has insisted that a sale isn’t currently on the cards:

“Ayyoub’s situation is exactly as I described it before; nothing has changed. I have been saying this for weeks; there is no interested club that has reached a final agreement with us.”

Of course, things can quickly change, and Letang’s remarks may simply be brinkmanship, as he looks to squeeze every dollar out of City for his prized asset.
