Romano Reveals “Last Minute” Man City Transfer As Player Says “Yes”

Man City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is set to leave the Etihad on a permanent basis, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his X account, Romano verified a report by Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg that the 33-year-old is poised to seal a “last-minute” move to Nottingham Forest.

Ortega is believed to have said “yes” to the transfer, and a medical has been booked ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday.

The keeper is expected to put pen to paper on a short-term contract, which suggests his deal may only run until the end of the season.

Why have City decided to let Ortega go?

The German had dropped down to third choice this campaign following the arrivals of both Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford in the summer.

That would have been difficult to accept for Ortega, who had been number one at times in previous seasons, having competed with Ederson for the gloves.

His contract with the Cityzens was set to expire on June 30th anyway, so it is unlikely that Forest will be paying a significant fee.

Man City have already confirmed the departure of another player

The Manchester club announced on Friday that Oscar Bobb had left to join Fulham. It is believed that the Cottagers will pay £27m for the Norwegian international, but two clauses have been included in the transfer.

20% of any future sale will go to City, while they have also been given a first option, which means they will get the opportunity to match any bid from another club if Bobb is sold in the future.

Antoine Semenyo’s arrival from Bournemouth had pushed the 22-year-old down the pecking order, and it was expected that he would leave before the transfer window closed.
