Manchester City are planning to make a sizeable bid for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, according to reports in Italy.
The Netherlands international has been linked with a switch to the Etihad on more than one occasion in recent months, following a strong season for the Rossoneri.
Reijnders has found the back of the net 13 times in 45 games, having impressed despite his club struggling in the Serie A table.
Calciomercato.com claim that the 26-year-old may soon be the subject of a “super offer” from Pep Guardiola’s side.
A bid of around €50m (£43m) to €60m (£52m) could be lodged and that sort of money could tempt Milan into selling, with the Italian side needing to raise funds if they don’t qualify for the Champions League.
Reijnders has only signed a new contract recently
The Dutchman put pen to paper on a 5 and a half year deal at the start of last month. However, Milan could be strapped for cash if they don’t finish in the top 4.
Sergio Conceicao’s men are currently sitting 9th in the table, nine points adrift of the Champions League spots so it’s likely that the futures of Reijnders and others (such as Rafael Leao) will be called into question over the coming weeks.
City may have rivals for the midfielder
It was reported in early March that Chelsea had made contact with Reijnders and his entourage. How accurate those stories are, it isn’t known but there is likely to be a lot of interest in the midfielder if Milan signal their willingness to sell.
At the moment, the Cityzens appear to be the club in pole position. Following the news that Kevin De Bruyne will leave at the end of the season, strengthening the midfield will be a top priority and Reijnders’ name seems to feature high on the list of targets.
