Sergio Aguero Weighs In On Whether Man City Should Make £65M Raid On Premier League Rival

Man City legend Sergio Aguero says “there’s still some debate” as to whether his former club should make a move for Newcastle fullback Tino Livramento.

Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero said the likes of Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes have not performed badly when asked to fill in at right-back, so that would have to be factored into whether a bid is made for Livramento:

“I’ve read [about Tino Livramento], but nothing solid has materialised yet. There’s Rico Lewis on that spot right now, and Pep [Guardiola] has used Matheus Nunes as well, with solid results.”

“I think there’s still some debate as to whether that position needs to be reinforced or not.”

How much would it cost to sign Livramento?

There have been suggestions that the Cityzens would be willing to pay up to £65m for the England international. However, Newcastle would likely demand a lot more.

An £80m asking price has been mentioned previously, but if the Magpies do sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool, there is next to no chance that they would sanction Livramento’s departure as well.

Are Man City looking at any alternatives?

Since Kyle Walker’s departure to Burnley, there has actually been very little in the way of speculation in terms of potential replacements.

Livramento’s name has been mentioned, but it appears interest in Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso has cooled. Last week, the Italian’s agent confirmed that Pep Guardiola’s side “abandoned” plans to sign the defender back in January.

Flamengo’s Wesley was also said to be on the radar, but the Brazilian is now set to join Serie A side Roma. In terms of other options, Porto’s Martim Fernandes has been linked, but the 19-year-old would very much be one for the future.

In other news, Man City are not planning a record-breaking bid worth £170m for a former player
