Man City are plotting a summer move for Roma right-back Wesley, according to reports.
Bolavip.com claim that sources have told them that the Manchester club are “planning to offer” around €50m (£43.5m) for the Brazilian international.
Wesley only moved to Roma in July last year for €25m, but he had been linked with the Cityzens prior to that transfer.
It would be surprising if Pep Guardiola’s side were willing to pay double that amount a matter of months later, but Bolavip insist that Guardiola himself is the one pushing for the transfer as he is a big “fan” of his style of play.
What do fans need to know about Wesley?
The 22-year-old came through Tubarao-SC’s academy before joining Flamengo’s youth ranks at the start of 2021.
Wesley made his senior debut against Atletico Clube Goianiense in December of the same year, but he wouldn’t become a regular starter for Flamengo until 2023. He racked up over 100 appearances during his time with the Brazilian Serie A giants, winning the league, the Brazilian Cup and the Copa Libertadores in the process.
Following his move to Roma, he has played mostly as a wingback, on both flanks, starting 24 times in all competitions for the Giallorossi.
Man City are in the market for a new right-back
Director of Football Hugo Viana is expected to prioritise strengthening the right-hand side of defence this summer. Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is a top target, but the cost of signing the England international could prove to be prohibitive.
Brentford’s Michael Kayode and Feyenoord’s Givairo Read are other names who have been linked in recent weeks. It remains to be seen how high up Wesley is on the club’s shortlist, but it seems he is still an option under consideration.
