Man City Join Chelsea And Liverpool In Race For £88M Rated Ivorian Ace Who Sees Mbappe As His “Role Model”

Man City are among the teams interested in signing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, according to reports in the German media.

Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) have claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side, along with Chelsea, Liverpool and others, are keeping close tabs on the Ivorian international’s progress.

Diomande has only been a professional footballer for less than a year, having made his senior debut for Leganes against Real Madrid back in March.

The teenager made such an impression during his first six months in Spain that Leipzig opted to pay €20m to bring him to Germany at the start of this season.

Diomande says his “role model” is Kylian Mbappe

Speaking in an interview with Transfermarkt in October, the 18-year-old said that his style of play is most similar to Vinicius Jr, but he says he takes most of his inspiration from one of his Real Madrid teammates:

“I think Vinicius Junior is the best player in comparison [to me]. When it comes to mindset, my role model is Kylian Mbappe. I think you must have a good mentality. I think if your heart and mind are okay, then you will be okay overall. I try to work on that the most.”

Man City won’t be able to secure his services on the cheap

Sport Bild report that RB Leipzig are already aware that they have one of the most exciting young players in European football.

After splashing out €20m to snap up Diomande last summer, it is believed that they will not accept a fee below €100m (£88m) if a team comes knocking either in January or next summer.

The Ivorian is a right-footed left winger, and considering Jeremy Doku’s form at the moment, it would be a surprise if City paid a significant fee for someone who plays in the same position as the Belgian.
