Ex-Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen is expecting Manchester City to win the Premier League title.
While Owen says he would like to see one of his former clubs finish top of the table, he can’t see past Pep Guardiola’s side who usually perform so strongly during the final stretch of the season:
“I think they have the easiest run-in as well. My heart of course says Liverpool. I think it would be the most incredible story. Jurgen Klopp’s last season, but I do think Man City are the best team in the world at the moment and I can see them going into overdrive. My head says Manchester City.”
Owen doesn’t even mention Arsenal, who currently sit in first on goal difference, but the former England international clearly feels that City will overhaul the Gunners.
We will know more about City’s title prospects by the end of the month
The Cityzens take on Arsenal at the Etihad on March 31st. It’s a hard game to predict as it comes right after the international break so neither team will be at 100%.
Guardiola is also sweating over the fitness of two key players heading into the fixture. Neither Ederson nor Kevin De Bruyne will join up with their countries as they are nursing injuries.
Speaking last week, Guardiola said he was hopeful that both will be fit for Arsenal but there remain doubts over their availability.
City do have the easiest run-in
If the reigning champions can secure victory against the Gunners, it will set them up nicely for the final nine games.
While they do have tricky away fixtures against Tottenham and Brighton coming up, their other matches against top 10 opponents are at home. In addition to Arsenal, both Aston Villa and West Ham have to come to the Etihad Stadium.
