Sergio Aguero Backs Manchester City To Sign Rodri Replacement In January Transfer Window

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has said that he thinks City will sign a midfielder to replace Rodri in January.

Rodri has been out injured since late September when City drew 2-2 to rivals Arsenal in a game which has proved to be damaging.

Many believe that the reason Pep Guardiola‘s side are struggling is because they no longer have the Ballon d’Or winner in midfield to control the game.

The Spaniard will miss the rest of the season, meaning that City could decide to replace him in January by making a move for a midfielder. Furthermore, Mateo Kovacic is also out injured meaning Guardiola has a lack of depth in midfield.

Aguero believes that the club will sign a Rodri replacement. He told Stake: “The injuries of Rodri and Kovacic (less lengthy but still meaningful) have left that part of the field wanting. I’d assume that’s where we’ll likely see a new signing but I don’t have a particular horse in the race.”

Who could Manchester City sign to replace Rodri?

The Cityzens have been linked to several midfielders as of late in an attempt to fill the void that is currently left in the middle of the park.

City have been linked to Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes who had previously held a £100m release clause in the summer transfer window.

This season so far, the midfielder has made 16 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, scoring one goal and three assists.

Furthermore, Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has also been touted as a possible Rodri replacement as the German international’s contract at the Allianz Arena is set to expire at the end of the season.

The Bundesliga side will likely want to cash in on Kimmich in January if they can’t extend his contract meaning City could get a cheaper deal for the 29-year-old.
