Premier League Clubs Come To An Agreement As New Postponement Rules Are Put In Place

Premier League teams have come to an agreement on new match postponement rules, which should see a lot fewer games getting called off in the second half of the season.

A club must show that they have at least four virus cases in the first team squad before a game can be postponed.

Up until now, injuries, suspensions and even players who were absent due to international duty have been considered in assessing whether a fixture can go ahead.

Previous rules stated that teams must have 13 fit players, including a goalkeeper for a match to be played but, from now on, the number of virus cases will be the main consideration for Premier League officials.

22 matches have been postponed in total over the past couple of months, but the new guidelines should ensure that clubs will be appealing to have matches called off far less frequently, with youngsters expected to be drafted in if required instead.
