Battle For The PL Golden Glove: The 5 Keepers With The Most Clean Sheets So Far This Season

We are over halfway through the season, and we thought it was a good time to check on who is in the running for the Golden Glove.

It must be said that there isn’t a club in the Premier League whose defence has looked rock solid this campaign.

That is reflected in the fact that there are a whole host of goalkeepers in contention for this year’s award.

Press the next page as we name the five shot-stoppers with the most clean sheets so far this season.

=2) David Raya (Arsenal) – 5

There are 7 different goalkeepers with 5 clean sheets but the Arsenal No.1 has reached that number in 15 matches, which is less than all but one other.

Fans and pundits have been less than impressed with Raya’s performances since he took over from Aaron Ramsdale in goal and the criticism is warranted.

The Spaniard currently has the lowest save percentage of any keeper in the top flight.

With that in mind, his position in the top 5 for the Golden Glove can be attributed to him having a strong defence in front of him.

=2) Nick Pope (Newcastle United) – 5

The 31-year-old has reached 5 clean sheets in 14 Premier League appearances.

While Pope has not been as impressive as last campaign, when he played a key role in helping the Magpies finish fourth, he has still performed pretty well.

Unfortunately, a shoulder injury he sustained in the 1-0 win over Manchester United last month means he will be sidelined for an extended period.

Martin Dubravka has filled in ably in Pope’s absence but there is speculation that Newcastle will go into the market this month for another shot-stopper.

=1) Jordan Pickford (Everton) – 6

The England no.1 is often criticised for making too many mistakes in goal.

However, this season, Pickford has one of the highest save % in the Premier League, while helping to keep the joint-most clean sheets of any keeper.

That is quite some feat, considering that Everton have had their struggles this campaign. Their position in the table is misleading, though, as they have had a 10-point deduction for breaching FFP rules.

Even so, Pickford’s performances have been one of the highlights of a very difficult season so far.

=1) Andre Onana (Manchester United) – 6

Statistically, United’s summer signing hasn’t had a bad start to his career at Old Trafford.

In addition to topping the clean sheet table, Onana has the third-best save ratio (73.7%).

Sometimes, though, stats can be misleading. The Cameroon international has made a number of glaring mistakes that have led to goals.

There is no doubt that Onana possesses ability but, if he wants to be United’s No.1 for the long term, he has to improve his consistency.

=1) Alisson Becker (Liverpool) – 6

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville said recently that the Liverpool No.1 is “by far” the best keeper in the world.

Some may dispute that claim but Alisson has undoubtedly been one of the most reliable shot-stoppers over the past five years.

The Brazilian international has continued to pull off outstanding saves, helping his Liverpool side revive their fortunes this season.

Alisson has won the Golden Glove on two previous occasions and he is on course for a third.
