Sterling Lashes Out At Liverpool As He Questions Why City Stars Are Not Given The Same Respect

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling does not think his teammates have been given the credit they deserve by their fellow professionals in recent seasons.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have won the PFA Player of the Year Award in the last two years despite Liverpool having missed out to City for the league title in both seasons, and Sterling believes it is a sign of a lack of respect:

“Every team which wins the league has a player who wins Player of the Year, for sure. So, this year Liverpool win the league and a Liverpool player will win the Player of the Year for sure. We win the league for five times and we were not treated with the same respect.”

There was certainly a groundswell of support for Sterling to win the award last season for his efforts, but the votes went to Virgil van Dijk instead.

Similarly, in the 2017/18 campaign, Kevin De Bruyne managed to score 12 goals and provide an incredible 21 assists during that season but the prize was handed to Mohamed Salah

There is more of an argument that Sterling should have won out over van Dijk, than with Salah’s award, though, considering the Egyptian bagged 44 goals in 52 games two years ago.
