The Five Belgian Stars Who Have The Most Appearances In The Premier League

After looking at the highest appearance makers in Premier League history from Argentina last week, we now turn our attention to Belgium.

Up until the last 15 years or so, Belgians were a rarity in English football but the explosion of young, talented players from the country resulted in many joining Premier League teams.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, one of the most well-known Belgians playing in England, surprisingly doesn’t even make this list with every player in our top five having played well over 200 games.

Press the next page as we look at the Belgians who have made the most appearances during the Premier League era.

5) Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – 245 apps

Undoubtedly the most gifted Belgian of his generation, the forward was almost unplayable on his day, gliding past defenders and scoring some spectacular individual goals.

During Hazard’s seven seasons in England, the playmaker won two Premier League titles and the PFA Player of the Year award in 2015.

4) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa, Liverpool and Crystal Palace) – 245 apps

The striker started his career in England like a house on fire with Aston Villa, resulting in a £32.5m move to Liverpool in 2015. However, the arrival of Jurgen Klopp led to him leaving Anfield after just one season.

Benteke’s £27m switch to Crystal Palace started brightly, scoring 17 goals in his first campaign, but he has barely scored for the Eagles over the past four years.

3) Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea, West Brom, Everton and Man Utd) – 252 apps

The Belgian marksman never failed to score below 10 league goals as a regular starter during seven seasons playing in the Premier League.

Lukaku made his reputation during a loan spell at West Brom before joining Everton on a permanent basis from Chelsea in 2014. Three successful years at Goodison Park led to a lucrative move to Manchester United. However, things didn’t quite work out for him at Old Trafford and he is now excelling during a stint with Inter Milan in Italy.

2) Marouane Fellaini (Everton and Man Utd) – 260 apps

The Belgian midfielder created a reputation for himself as a battering ram, and he was very effective during his time playing under David Moyes at Everton.

However, after Moyes brought Fellaini with him to Manchester United, his limitations were highlighted even more and, even though he established himself under the management of Jose Mourinho, he eventually departed for China in 2019.

1) Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) – 265 apps

A world-class defender and a leader, the centre-back played a pivotal role in helping City to become one of the most successful teams in Premier League history.

During his 11 years at the Etihad, Kompany won four league titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Community Shield on two occasions.
