The forward had been a consistent scorer for Monterrey in his native Mexico during the mid-00s and it led to him moving to Villarreal, where he was plagued by a number of injuries.

West Ham took a chance on Franco in 2009, when the Hammers were in deep financial trouble. To be fair to the striker, his five goals in 23 appearances was not a bad return before he was released at the end of his one-year deal.
