The FIVE Most Valuable First Team Squads In The Premier League

There are always arguments among fans and pundits alike about whether a club can actually “buy success.”

Clearly, the more money a team possesses, the more likely they are to win trophies but smart player recruitment and a strong youth academy can be just as important.

Today, we look at teams in the Premier League with the highest valued players. We have used Transfermarkt for our rankings as while they are not always accurate, they are based on a number of objective factors such as player performance, age and past transfer fees.

Press the next page as we count down the most valuable first-team squads in the Premier League (based on their Transfermarkt value)

5) Tottenham – £604.8m

Spurs’s squad is pretty top-heavy in terms of player valuations. Two of their stars (Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min) make up almost 1/3 of their entire squad’s valuation on Transfermarkt.

If Kane were to leave the North London club this summer, Tottenham would actually drop below Leicester in terms of their team’s total value.

4) Manchester United – £785.03m

It is surprising that the Red Devils are not higher on this list, especially as Jadon Sancho has recently joined the club, but their first-team squad is rather small compared to others, which explains their position somewhat.

With Raphael Varane expected to sign for United in the coming days, the Frenchman’s arrival would move them up to second. The defender’s Transfermarkt value is £63m.

3) Liverpool – £814.05m

The Reds have only signed one player so far this summer. Ibrahima Konate has added another £31.5m to their overall valuation on Transfermarkt but the possible departures of Xherdan Shaqiri, Nat Phillips and Neco Williams could see them drop down this list soon.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has nine players who are worth £40m or more, which demonstrates there is a lot of quality throughout the squad. It isn’t concentrated in just a few players.

2) Chelsea – £820.35m

Despite only having only eight players worth above the £40m mark, the Blues are above Liverpool on this list simply because of their strong squad depth.

There are no less than 25 players who are valued above £10m, many of whom (such as Tiemou Bakayoko, Conor Gallagher and Ethan Ampadu) are not really part of Thomas Tuchel’s first-team setup. The German has a wealth of resources at his disposal.

1) Manchester City – £904.64m

The Premier League champions can field an entire 11 who are valued above £40m on Transfermarkt, and they have another six players who are worth above £25m.

With the Citizens keen on adding the likes of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish to their ranks this summer, their squad value could surpass the £1billion mark easily.
