The Five Spanish Stars Who Have The Most Appearances In The Premier League

In our fourth article profiling the highest appearances makers in the Premier League era from their respective countries, we take a look at players from Spain.

The country has produced some of the most talented footballers in the world over the past two decades so it is not surprising so many ended up playing in England.

Our top five is full of household names who have won multiple trophies both at domestic and international level.

Press the next page as we list the top five Spanish players who have made the most appearances in Premier League history.

5) Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea) – 284 appearances

The Chelsea captain is actually level with Mikel Arteta in terms of appearances made in the Premier League but the fullback is likely to surpass the former Everton midfielder in the very near future.

Azpilicueta has now been at Stamford Bridge for eight and a half seasons, winning two Premier League titles during that time.

4) Pepe Reina (Liverpool and Aston Villa) – 297 appearances

The Spanish shot-stopper was formidable when he first arrived on these shores, winning the Golden Glove award in three consecutive seasons between 2005 and 2008.

However, Reina’s form did begin to dip and he left the Reds after nine years in 2014. The keeper did, however, return for a brief loan spell at Aston Villa last season.

3) David Silva (Manchester City) – 309 appearances

The Manchester City icon stayed at the Etihad Stadium for a decade so it is not a surprise that he is so high up on this list of appearance makers.

Silva was a magician on the ball and undoubtedly one of the most talented players of the Premier League era. He won four league championships before leaving for Real Sociedad last summer.

2) David De Gea (Manchester United) – 334 appearances

The 30-year-old has spent nine and a half years at Old Trafford; a period in which he has been United’s undisputed number one.

There were times where De Gea has been hailed as the greatest goalkeeper in the world but his form, especially in the last couple of years, has been rather disappointing. He is, though, still a commanding presence in goal for the Red Devils.

1) Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal and Chelsea) – 350 appearances

After progressing through Arsenal’s youth academy, the talented Spaniard made his senior debut at just 16 years of age, before spending the next eight years in the Gunners’ first team.

His former team Barcelona came calling in 2011 but, after three years with the Catalan club, he moved back to England to play for Chelsea. He won two Premier League titles in his five seasons with the Blues before leaving for Monaco.
