The Five Teenagers Who Could Make A Big Impression On The Premier League This Season

Every year, there appears to be a handful of youngsters who manage to make a name for themselves in the Premier League.

Last season, the likes of Eric Garcia, Mason Greenwood and Bukayo Saka showed that they were more than ready to cut it at the highest level in English football with some superb performances for their respective clubs.

With this campaign being shortened by one month, clubs will almost certainly need to use their squads more, with so many matches being played in a short space a time, which could provide more opportunities for young players.

So who could make the breakthrough this season? Press the next page as we take a look at five promising teenagers who could make a big impression.

Jayden Braaf (Manchester City)

The Dutch Under 18 International has been at Manchester City for over two years now and he began training with the first-team squad at the end of last season after impressing in the Under 23s.

Leroy Sane’s departure for Bayern Munich may see Braaf handed some opportunities by manager Pep Guardiola this campaign, although the arrival of Ferran Torres from Valencia may scupper those plans.

Hannibal Mejbri (Manchester United

United signed the Frenchman from Monaco for £10m last year and after bedding into the Under 23s at the back end of last season, he is gradually finding his feet at Old Trafford.

Last night, Mejbri showed what he is all about by opening the scoring for United’s Under 21s as they thrashed Salford’s senior side in the first group stage match of the EFL Trophy. The 17-year-old is one to keep an eye on this campaign.

Tino Anjorin (Chelsea)

The attacking midfielder was handed his senior debut by manager Frank Lampard in the Carabao Cup last season, playing the last 25 minutes of the 7-1 win against Grimsby Town. He went on to get his first league appearance versus Everton later in the campaign.

Anjorin may find it hard to get regular minutes, with Chelsea having spent big on Kai Havertz, but it will be interesting to see if the 18-year-old can make an impression if he is afforded game time off the bench.

Curtis Jones (Liverpool)

This could be a breakout year for the 19-year-old. So far, his most memorable moment has come in the FA Cup with a spectacular winner against rivals Everton last season. However, after the restart in June, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp gave him more chances to impress in the league.

Jones scored his first league goal versus Aston Villa and he then went on to make his first start in the 1-1 draw against Burnley. He is likely to get even more match time this campaign.

Ben Cottrell (Arsenal)

Following the emergence of Bukayo Saka last season, the next player who may graduate from the Gunners’ youth academy could be the central midfielder. The 18-year-old is said to have impressed Mikel Arteta with his technical ability.

During pre-season, Cottrell even looked comfortable playing out of position in a wingback role, and he was once again in good form playing for the Under 21s earlier this week, providing an assist as the young Gunners won 2-1 against Ipswich’s senior side in the EFL Trophy.
