The FIVE Youngest Debutants To Play In Europe’s Top 5 Leagues

After Arsenal made Ethan Nwaneri the youngest ever player to play in the Premier League, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the age of debutants in other leagues across Europe.

In this post, we will also go through the record holders in Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga, France’s Ligue One and Germany’s Bundesliga.

Only one of the five was actually above 16 years of age when they made their senior debut, which shows you that talent can trump age, even at the highest level.

Press the next page as we list the five youngest debutants in Europe’s top five leagues.

Premier League – Ethan Nwaneri – 15 Years And 181 Days

The teenager not only became the youngest player to feature in a Premier League game, but he is also now the youngest debutant in Europe’s top five major competitions.

Nwaneri’s runout against Brentford was a big surprise but it later transpired that the Gunners are trying to persuade the midfielder into signing a professional contract.

La Liga – Luka Romero – 15 Years And 218 Days

The Mallorca player broke a record that had been held for eighty years when he came on as a substitute during a league game against Real Madrid in 2020.

Romero went on to make just nine senior appearances before he made the switch to Serie A side Lazio last year. He was called up for the first time for Argentina’s senior squad back in March.

Ligue One – Kalman Gerencseri – 15 Years And 225 Days

This is not a player many would have heard of as France’s youngest debutant took to the field over 60 years ago. Gerencseri was handed a start for Lens against Monaco in 1960.

Not even young prodigies such as Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe made their debuts as young as Gerencseri.

Serie A – Wisdom Amey – 15 Years And 274 days

Bologna decided to hand the young centre-back his debut in May 2021, although his team were on the wrong end of a 2-0 loss to Genoa.

Amey has only made one more senior appearance since then, when he was handed his first start against the same opponent. This time, though, his side secured a 1-0 victory.

Bundesliga – Youssoufa Moukoko – 16 years And 1 Day

Up until recently, the Bundesliga had set a minimum age of 18 for a player to make their first-team debut but that was lowered to 16 in 2020.

Just a day after his 16th birthday, Moukoko was handed his first appearance by Borussia Dortmund, replacing Erling Haaland in the 5-2 win over Hertha Berlin.
