The Most Defeats Suffered By A Club In Premier League History TOP FIVE

Losing a match in the Premier League is not a rare occurrence for the majority of clubs who play in England’s top flight.

It is an extremely competitive division with most teams having the capability to beat anyone else on their day. However, there are some who have been on the wrong end of results more than others.

While our list does comprise of clubs who have been pretty much ever-present at the top level, there are a few surprises in this top five.

Press the next page as we list the five teams who have lost the most matches in the Premier League era.

5) Tottenham Hotspur – 363 Defeats

Spurs’s presence in the top five is mainly down to their years under the ownership of Alan Sugar. Their worst finish was 15th in 1994, when they lost 19 times.

In fact, they also lost 19 times during the 2003/04 campaign, and they have only lost fewer than 11 in a single season on ten occasions over the past thirty years.

4) Aston Villa – 377

The Villans may be two-time winners of the European Cup but the Midlands club have struggled to really compete in the top flight over the last decade.

Villa were relegated in 2016 and spent three seasons in the second tier. While they now have two billionaire owners, they are still fighting to re-establish themselves in the Premier League. It will be hoped that the appointment of Steven Gerrard will change things for the better.

3) Newcastle United – 380

The Magpies have endured some tough seasons under the Mike Ashley era, having only finished in the top half once over the last 15 years.

Things will likely change now that Amanda Staveley’s consortium has taken over running of the club, but they have been in wretched form so far this campaign, having failed to win any of their first 14 matches.

2) West Ham – 398

The Hammers only narrowly missed out on top spot, with their last defeat actually coming against Manchester City last weekend at the Etihad Stadium.

Considering they have spent three seasons out of the top flight, it appears that they do tend to get beaten more often than they should do, considering they are a historic club.

1) Everton – 400

Their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last night was actually the Toffees’ 400th loss since the Premier League began back in 1992.

The club have been in danger of relegation on a number of occasions over the past three decades so it is not so surprising to see them at the top of this list.
